Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on theraputic approach for the whole body, with a particular focus on the spine, neck and head.  Through a number of gentle hand placements, the CST therapist - working in conjunction with the body's own subtle tissue movement - helps the body to release aches, pains and stiffness, and to come back into better structural alignment.  As well as providing purely physical relief for pain and discomfort, CST also helps to reduce stress, to promote relaxation and to leave us feeling less out of sorts.

Our bodies need to tell their stories.  They communicate our thoughts and feelings through posture, and in the way in which they hold tension and stress.  When this non-verbal communication doesn't get listened to, our bodies start to grumble and create more tightness and pain.  However if we do pay attention to these messages, and use CST to translate and respond to them, we can feel unburdened and a whole lot better.  CST uses what many describe as “listening hands”.  The therapist uses intuitive awareness and a number of other therapeutic skills, in order to work with the body and create an effective approach to healing.  CST sessions can also be mediative in nature, physically helping our nervous system to relax and our minds to unwind.

As well as for adults, CST is known to be a successful treatment for babies and young children, for conditions such as colic, reflux, and problems sleeping.  Many people bring their little ones for treatment after a difficult birth. Mum often benefits from a treatment in these circumstances too.

Sessions are carried out with you lying clothed on a comfortable massage table and typically last an hour to an hour and a half.
